MRUA Page 2 About Us
The Medway River Users Association was formed in 1968
after catastrophic floods which ravaged the Medway valley
destroying homes,
businesses, property and not least lives. We continue the ongoing challenge of
persuading and lobbying the authorities responsible for the River and its
environs to do the essential maintenance that may not be obvious to the casual
observer. It is a task that can sometimes be difficult and frustrating, but the
rewards are worth it when we see the river being enjoyed by so many. This
navigation needs a lot of maintenance to keep it up to a standard that the
USER expects.
We can only do this with Maximum Support from the people who use this facility.
So Who uses the River Medway ? You could be forgiven for thinking that Anglers
are the most frequent users closely followed by boaters of one kind or another.
Both have to pay for the privilege of using the Medway. Canoeists, scullers, we
even have divers. Not to mention birdwatchers, walking groups, art groups,
photographers, all enjoy the diversity of the navigation. Its scenery is admired
by thousands of tourists, just look at Teston Lock and Yalding on a sunny summer
day.
The Medway River Users Association exists to:
Guard the interests of ALL users of the River Medway.
To improve the facilities of The Navigation.
To safeguard the amenities of The River Medway.
Full membership of The Association entitles you to:
Voting rights at the Annual General Meeting.
The right to fly The Association Burgee.
Editions of The Association magazine "The River Crier",
published three or four times a year.
